Three days at Torrey. Detailed discussions with Dr. G. A. Reay, Director, James Lamont, Librarian; Dr. C. L. Cutting, fish processing; Dr. J. M. Shewan, bacteriologist (brief); Dr. J. A. Lovern, byproducts, and Dr. A. Banks, cold storage. Detailed notes taken.

In3brief, it would appear that we must establish in Hong Kong small plants costing, say, £300 each for experimental and small scale processing for:

Fish meal, Smoking, Dehydration, Canning.

We must purchase and build ice-making and cold storage plant as soon as ground near market can be earmarked and capital obtained. Pros and cons of block ice, flacice and pacice to be reviewed.

Discussions also held with:

A. R. Taylor, Naval Engineer re mechanization of junks; J. S. Grant, representative of Ruston & Hornsby re diesel

engines in junks;

John Kilgour, New Standard Cold Storage Co., re ice making

and freezing plant.
